Beta state conference: fun or fail?

The NC State Beta Convention a statewide conference for Beta Clubs all over North Carolina. These clubs get together to celebrate the importance of Beta, including its four pillars on which it is established: achievement, character, leadership, and service. Furthermore, according to its tenants, “the National Beta Club is the largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization in America. And for more than 80 years, it has prepared today’s students to be tomorrow’s leaders,” and those leaders congregate at the state convention, awaiting the chance for national qualification.

What is there to offer at the Beta Club State Convention? QUITE A LOT. There are talent events from dancing and singing, state held advisory boards and officer campaigns, academic rivalry in core subject knowledge, even scrap-booking competitions! The Beta Convention is held in the Koury Center in Greensboro, and the conference lasts for two days. The convention itself is mainly held to vote for state-wide officers and to determine which school clubs qualify for the national level of competitions.

The National Round is held in Orlando, Florida this year during June, and it’s located at DISNEYWORLD! The conference lasts 3 days. What Beta student could pass up such a scholarly activity, especially where Disney is involved?! Although we did not qualify for the national level this year, the Beta convention, overall, is something that I, a Beta member, would highly recommend, for it was a positive experience, in which one can make new friends and foster leadership skills. Fun or Fail? Fun. Definitely.
