The Yadkin Arts Council held multiple auditions for five different plays and musicals at the Willingham Theater this past weekend. This theatrical opportunity gave people of all ages in the community a chance to express their love for theater arts. The auditions called on novice and experienced performers alike.
One Starmount High student, Sandra Hammesfahr, expressed she was nervous to audition, yet excited as she stated, “Theatre arts is an outlet, and it also gives a person the chance to be themselves by portraying the lives of others. I love it!”
Some of our well-known actors from the area, such as Patty Grant and John Hutchens, took to the stage this past Saturday afternoon for the multiple audition experience.
The theater’s first ever performance happened in December 2012, and the program has only grown since then. The Yadkin Arts Council is located in downtown Yadkinville and offers a variety of live performances, music, theater, dance, and film. John Willingham, the president of the Yadkin Arts Council, bought the theater as a worn down car dealership in 2002, and his dream — turning the building into the theater it is today — was reached in 2011.
This 193-seat theater is about to kick it off with back-to-back plays and musicals each month. This consists of The Bad Seed, a close-call thriller, Rejoice which is a joyful holiday musical, a classic musical Guys and Dolls, and even a throw-back to Shakespeare!
